Thank You Charter Members

THE PROFESA CHARTER MEMBER PROGRAM

Longitude is seeking 20 committed business people, families, or individuals who can contribute a small amount of resources and make an incredible difference in the lives of many.

In Ghana 80% of the population live on less than two dollars a day and only 30%     of Ghana’s young adults attend high school.  Free education is the key to breaking this cycle of poverty, but Ghana’s government requires students to pay large fees to attend the few high schools that are available.

The Professional Secretarial Academy (PROFESA) is an alternative for impoverished youth who wish to continue their education but cannot afford traditional schooling.  The PROFESA academy needs funding support in order to cover its yearly budget of $15,000.

$15,000 can be spent in one week at most schools in the Western World, but in Ghana this small amount of money covers all of PROFESA’s needs for one calendar year, from typewriter purchase and repair, to teachers salaries’, building utilities, and most important, the ability for the school to offer free and reduced tuition to its poorest students.

However, no school can realistically rely on donations forever, and one of Longitude’s primary goals is to help Meshach realize his dream of creating a school that will one day be self-sufficient.  Together with local Ghanaian contacts, we can build a robust international volunteer program that will help Meshach’s school to stand on its own by the year 2012.

The goal of “The PROFESA Charter Members” program is to create sustainability.  Your generous gift of $500 per year for three years can make a direct impact on the school and help give someone a chance to change their lives. If PROFESA’s operating budget is financed for the next three years, then Longitude can invest its time and energy building PROFESA’s infrastructure (i.e., further training its teachers and creating new programming and partnerships).

1. Your donation is tax-deductible.

2. Every dollar you donate will be sent directly to Ghana and used to fund the work of the PROFESA Secretarial Academy.

3. You will be  supporting a grassroots Ghanaian school run by Ghanaian teachers who are working on behalf of their own struggling communities.

4. As a member you will receive quarterly reports about the progress of the school.

5. You will receive recognition for you generous gift on our website, in our annual report, and in the form of a small thank you gift from the school.
