Film Crew from Idaho and JETs to GP Village.

Volunteers from Japan and Idaho will converge upon the Indian Villages of Gummallapadu and Kothasatram-Indiranagar from December 24, 2008 to January 3, 2009. They will help build many homes for Dalit families and widows as well as document ARV’s success in other villages.

Longitude will also be shooting our first documentary film about India on location in the villages, thanks to the generous volunteers from SWD - Something Worth Doing.

The people of Gummallapadu Village are excited to welcome another volunteer group into their community.

Gummallapadu Village Background

Gummallapadu (GP) Village is home to 59 Dalit families, most of which are headed by widows. Low-lying near Kolleru Lake, it floods often. The able-bodied have migrated to cities for work, leaving the weak, sick, young and old behind.

Longitude has sent several groups to GP Village, where we have built houses for 10 widows already. For the remaining 49 homes, ARV has secured a government grant and a Habitat For Humanity loan for each family. Longitude’s financial commitment comes to US$375 per house, for a total of US$18,375.

How You Can Help

Please consider making a US$375 contribution in order to fully sponsor the construction of one family home. Partial sponsorship in any amount will also work wonders in bringing piece of mind and security to a very deserving family.

Full sponsors of an entire family home will receive a personalized report complete with family details and a picture of the home being built. General updates on GP Village progress will be available to all supporters via the Longitude Blog.
