Another JET Crew to Volunteer in GP Village!
The Golden Week 2009 Work Camp took place from April 30 to May 9, 2009. The JET volunteers helped to build many homes for Dalit families and widows in Gummallapadu Village.

Gummallapadu Village Background
Gummallapadu (GP) Village is home to 59 Dalit families, most of which are headed by widows. Low-lying near Kolleru Lake, it floods often. The able-bodied have migrated to cities for work, leaving the weak, sick, young and old behind.
Longitude has sent several groups to GP Village, where we have built houses for 10 widows already. For an additional 49 homes, our partner, ARV, has secured a government grant and a Habitat For Humanity loan for each family. Longitude’s financial commitment comes to US$375 per house.
After the success of our Winter 08-09 Expedition, the local government extended a land grant for 24 additional houses. This brings our commitment to 83 family homes. This increase in cost will be spread over our March, April, May and June expeditions. The May 2009 crew will assume responsibility for 37 homes, or US$13,875.
